Dear Seahawk Wrestlers and Parents,
Welcome to
I believe that wrestling is more than just a sport, it is a tool to teach all sorts of positive life lessons such as: discipline, dedication, hard work, overcoming adversity, independence, sacrifice, leadership, winning, losing, confidence, sportsmanship, teamwork, avoiding excuses, and the value of preparation. Wrestling teaches a way to approach life; a way that guarantees success. Wrestling is in my blood and I am very excited and honored to be able to coach. My primary interest as a coach is to help young men and women become the best wrestlers and people that they can be. I promise to give no less than 100% to all of my wrestlers, and I expect no less from them.
The foundation of my program is based in hard work and discipline. I firmly believe that being well prepared is the key to success and drilling foundation moves is essential to preparation. Drilling is not exciting but it teaches the body to move without having to stop and think. Every wrestler should have a strong foundation from every position, and then build from this base. When the going gets tough, wrestlers should retreat to this solid foundation – not move away from it. I also firmly believe that every wrestler should be in great shape, for many wrestlers beat superior technical wrestlers because they have more energy. The continuous drilling and exercise to be adequately prepared takes hard work and discipline.
I believe that tournaments are where wrestlers gain the most experience and plan a tournament almost every weekend – Varsity as well as JV! Please check out the schedule closely and plan accordingly. There are two home tournaments – one varsity (Aspden Classic) and one JV (Seahawk Invitaitonal) – and the varsity will take a 4 day 3 night trip over the holiday break to the
On top of all of this I want wrestling to be a fun, positive experience. When we are adequately prepared we will win quite often, which is rather fun J!
I also push team work. Teams that work together become great, and being part of a great team is an extremely rewarding experience. I actively plan positive reinforcements such as “King of the Match” and “Highlights” to point out the great things that my wrestlers do as well as make sure every wrestler gets to wrestle.
There are three goals I strive for every wrestler to achieve each season:
1) Academic Success – that each wrestler will realize his/her potential, aim high, show constant improvement, and finish the season with a higher GPA than when he/she started.
2) Wrestling Success – that each wrestler will achieve his/her greatest potential in athletic performance, and by doing so contribute to the overall success of the team.
3) Personal Growth – that each wrestler will realize a continuing maturity and development in his/her personal virtues, character traits, attitudes, habits, and how these thing affect others. I want everyone to mature, develop self-confidence, and become a better person through learning self-discipline, cooperation, integrity, and teamwork.
Please do not be afraid to come up and introduce yourself to me. I am very interested in meeting the parent of my wrestlers and am more than willing to talk with you about the program. My cell # is (360) 649-7204 and work is (253) 530-4436.
Sincerely,
Coach – Cris Turner
